COOLie and Hubei martial arts: Chinese New Year Festival takes over Sydney

It’s festival hopping season here in Sydney – so named Best Festival and Events City for a reason (sorry Melbourne) . Just as we draw breath from the Sydney Festival madness, the City of Sydney Chinese New Year Festival is taking over the city, with hundreds of Hubei martial arts warriors arriving in town to show they mean business.

While its easy to get overwhelmed with the many free events, amazing food and parades in Chinatown and across Sydney, one not to miss is Performance 4A’s latest performance program at Belvoir – COOLie.

William Yang and Noeline Briggs-Smith (OAM) collaborate to present Meet in Moree, a beautiful visual and storytelling performance linking their personal stories growing up on Northern Qld. About Face is a fresh and energetic variety style show with some hilarious pieces from seriously talented young comedians Jennifer Wong and Oliver Phommavanh, as well as an exceptionally powerful ‘pants percussion’ dance piece from the Suara Indonesia Dance group.  On until Feb 13 at Belvoir.
